A quiet but powerful series of portraits of inner-city teenagers alongside their thoughts on modern life.
After the London 2011 riots, young photographer Julian Mährlein set out to capture the faces and voices of inner-city teenagers. The resulting portraits, shot on the streets with natural light, reveal the surprisingly tender side of a generation so often misrepresented and which faces a world in profound flux.
The series was shot with natural light and mostly in urban environments where the kids play football, basketball, skate or cycle. Accompanied by quotes taken from conversations with kids in London, Mährlein's portraits invite the viewer to challenge their existing preconceptions of a generation so often misunderstood.
